Environmental Remediation, Dredging and Capping
Petoskey, MI
This project involved removal of underwater sediments contaminated with concrete kiln dust from a luxury residential resort/development. WLDDI worked as subcontractor for WRS/Compass to perform surgical environmental dredging as well as capping of the dredge area. In addition, a modification to perform phase capping of an adjacent deep water sump was completed. This ongoing project involves phased lifts of an engineered cap containing geotextile fabric, washed sands, bentonite (GCL) fabric and gravel.
All dredging and capping was performed using real-time RTK dredge positioning system allowing for surgical dredging and application of capping constituents. Extensive uses of hydrographic surveying techniques as well as underwater video inspections were a key Quality Control task. WLDDI was able to mobilize specialized equipment to the site and configure our modular barges in a unique manner to allow for large spread on our positioning spuds, keeping them from disturbing sediment cap materials. In addition, a site specific lift was designed for the turbidity curtains, allowing a portion of it to be raised and lowered allowing barge access from the loading area to the work site.
