Wisconsin River Riverbank Remediation

Merrill, WI

This project involved removal of contaminated sediments from the river bank and underwater portions of the Wisconsin River near an historical industrial site. Rock outcroppings and boulders required a careful approach. River drafts were not enough to allow for performing the work from floating plant. WLDDI mobilized our 117,000 pound, 70 foot long reach excavator to the site along with matting and other materials to allow for shore side excavation. The underwater portions of the project involved a complex template that contained numerous different grade levels and side slopes. WLDDI implemented our real-time RTK dredge monitoring system to enable precise control of excavation depths. The project was completed on time and within budget. At the completion of the dredging, the entire site was capped with engineered cover of varying thickness.
